Border post between Foz do Iguaçu &
Puerto Iguazu reopens

When the border crossing at Foz do Iguaçu shut down last year, the local tourism took a downwards spiral and then nose-dived into the ground until domestic tourism started picking up steam a couple of months later. But even then, the continued border closure drained locals of much needed income.
The recent reopening of the border post at Foz do Iguaçu has been felt like a breath of fresh air amongst locals and tourists alike. After all, making the most of one’s stay at Foz do Iguaçu surely demands a visit to the Brazilian as well as the Argentinean side of the falls! Moreover, the destination also serves as a major entry / exit point for tourists undertaking multi-country itineraries.

The jumpstart does however come with a couple of ground rules. Crossing over the border into Argentina will require tourists to fill out an online “Declaración Jurada Entrada y salida” at least 48 hours in advance.

In addition, those venturing into Argentina will need to present a negative PCR test result, taken no more than 72 hours in advance. There are several PCR testing facilities in Foz do Iguaçu, some of which provide results within 6 hours of testing. Costs vary from lab to lab but average at R$ 230 per test, to be paid up front. We are happy to provide guide assistance and transport to PCR test facilities. Please consult us for prices. Those with limited time in Foz do Iguaçu may want to conduct the PCR test elsewhere prior to arriving in Foz do Iguaçu. This shouldn’t present a problem as we are able to provide access to PCR testing facilities in all major destinations. Inversely, all those crossing over the border from Argentina into Brazil will need to comply with the general Brazilian entry requirements as stipulated earlier in this newsletter.
