Full day Tutóia Delta with Scarlet Ibis spotting

If you’re stopping off in Tutóia on your trip up the Northeast coast, you won’t want to miss this boat tour of the world-famous Parnaíba Delta. With a departure from the port in Tutóia at 10am in the morning, you’ll spend the rest of the day touring the world’s third largest river delta and admiring the stunning flora and fauna of this protected natural sanctuary. After cruising past several islands and Tutóia’s striking ship cemetery, there’ll be a pit stop for swimming and an introduction to the local wildlife. Keen birders will think they have died and gone to heaven: scarlet ibis, hyacinth macaws and Jandaya parakeets are just some of the species that call the delta home. Then you’ll wind your way down narrow channels past natural dunes, lagoons and lush mangrove forests. A demonstration of crabbing and some more spots for swimming will help work up your appetite for lunch in a rustic seafood restaurant (not included). After a post-lunch pause, the tour continues on through the delta. Its majestic grand finale comes at the end of the afternoon: as the sun sets over the delta, you’ll see birds of all colours flocking down to roost for the night. Once this technicolour parade has drawn to a close, a private car will be waiting to transport you to your own roosting site: a cosy pousada in the city of Parnaíba.
