Jericoacoara and its surroundings form one of the most striking landscapes along Brazil’s northeast coast, with vast sand dunes, crystalline lagoons and sweeping beaches set within a protected national park. Just beyond the limits of Jericoacoara village lies the beach of Barrinha, in the municipality of Acaraú—an area that remains relatively unexplored and rewards visitors with spectacular views. The 27-kilometre route to Barrinha reveals the ever-changing topography of the coast, where wind-sculpted dunes, seasonal lagoons and mangroves contribute to the region’s biodiversity.
This full-day excursion begins at 9:00 a.m., with pick-up directly from the pousada. Travelling along a marked trail, the tour first crosses Preá Beach, known for its emerald-green waters. The first stop allows for photos and a refreshing swim. En route to Barrinha, participants stop at the iconic Árvore da Preguiça—an unusual mangrove tree shaped by constant winds that lies prostrate across the sand. There is another brief stop for refreshments at Preá before continuing the journey, either along the beach or by road, depending on the tide.
At Barrinha, travellers ascend the dunes for panoramic views of the coastline. The tour proceeds to Lagoa do Paraíso for a longer pause—ideal for lunch and relaxation. On the return leg to Jericoacoara, the route cuts through the dunes and seasonal lagoons of the national park, with a final stop at Lagoa do Amanso to watch the sunset before returning to the pousada.
Total duration is approximately nine hours. Lunch and entrance fees are not included
