Atlantic Forest Wild Food Walk

Explore the Atlantic Forest through your taste buds on this fascinating Wild Food Walk with your local Guide. Many of the interesting and unusual edible plants growing in the forest around Paraty cannot be found on sale in the supermarkets. The forest is full of surprises and this walk is a delightful and practical insight into the biodiversity of this UNESCO World Heritage site.

The Wild Food Walk takes place on the historic Gold Trail in the rainforest covered mountains, a short journey by road behind Paraty. After a quick briefing on safety and responsible foraging we hit the trail. The plants we find will vary depending on the season, but typically the guide will identify about 10 plants for you to try.

At the end of the trail there is time for a refreshing dip at the ‘Tarzan’ swimming hole or a thrilling slip down the ‘Toboggan’ rockslide. The tour finishes at a local Cachaça distillery where the rum is still made the traditional way from the sugarcane grown locally.

This is a fascinating and fun day out for anyone interested in wild food or just curious about the Rainforest.
