Morrinho Project turns 20!

The Morrinho project is a reconstruction - in miniature and made entirely of painted mud bricks - of Rio de Janeiro's famous favela-lined hillside. It all started out as a light-hearted game, though has since developed into a fascinating part of Santa Teresa's long love affair with the art world, complete with intricate streets and 3,000 individually placed residents. The level of detail is nothing short of astounding. The project not only inspires tourists, but also local residents and especially children, helping them cope with the hardships of life in the Pereira da Silva favela.

Recently, the project commemorated its 20 years existence. Despite the heavy downpours, taking part in the celebrations was an absolute privilege for Ideia Tours! We managed to donate clothes to the community, in addition to a financial donation, which was used to buy a variety of household goods that were distributed amongst a number of families.
