INNOVATIVE REUSE OF RAINWATER IN OUR OFFICES

Posted by Admin on May 31, 2017

Here at Ideia Tours we have long advocated the importance of sustainable consumption, ethical tourism and socially responsible practices, protecting and respecting the environment wherever possible. This ethos stretches to our choice of local suppliers and hotels, as well as being a philosophy which we proudly adopt within our own headquarters and subsidiary offices. As such, we are delighted to announce the recent installation of our brand-new, 25,000-liter rainwater recycling system and filtration system at our busy head office in Recife.

With the northeast of Brazil being one of the driest regions in the entire country and an area which regularly suffers extended periods of drought, this made the project all the more challenging, though all the more important. So, using a network of channels and guttering surrounding our HQ, rainwater (when it comes!) is funneled through a natural filtration system and into the reservoir, ready for use throughout the building and outdoor spaces, wherever it is safe to do so. Though the filtered water is not suitable for drinking, we estimate that this investment in a more sustainable use of such a precious resource will reduce our piped water usage by around 70%, making it a win-win both economically and environmentally! Adopting such practices can make a significant difference to the environmental impact of our day-to-day actions, building a greener future for the generations to come, something we at Ideia Tours will always strive to do.
