BRAZILIAN GOVERNMENT DECLARES AN END TO THE ZIKA EPIDEMIC

Posted by Admin on May 31, 2017

This month, the Brazilian Ministry of Health was delighted to declare an end to the state of emergency associated with the Zika Virus outbreak of 2015-2016. Following a widespread eradication program, cases of Zika are down 95% compared with the same period year, while Dengue Fever prevalence has also dropped, 90% down on figures taken from the early part of 2016. Typically, January to April/May can be the hottest period of the year and therefore a time when mosquito populations thrive, meaning that this significant reduction is even more important, given that it has occurred at a time of year which in theory posed the greatest risk.
